New homes are coming to Houston, at least 900 from Meritage Homes to be exact. A recent ordinance was passed restricting new home construction in floodplains. Weeks later, a “tough vote” according to Mayor Sylvester Turner gave Meritage Homes approval for new construction on Pinecrest Golf Course. The homes will be built at least 2 feet above the 500-year storm level and the community will be prepared with a 26-acre drainage system.
The announcement that it closed on the golf course came on May 1. Spring Brook Village, a new 116-acre community will be located at 3080 Gessner Drive, just south of Clay Road. The 800-resident community is near CityCentre and Memorial City Mall at Interstate 10 and Beltway 8. Amenities within the new community will include beautiful walking trails, lakes, gazebos, recreation centers and an infinity pool. Meritage plans to redevelop the golf course’s water features into an amenity for residents. Golf courses across the country are being transformed into single-family communities as the sport struggles to attract younger players.
